Statement from President Courtney B. Smith

As I assume the ACUNS presidency, I want to congratulate Dr. Franz Baumann in his new role as President Emeritus. I look forward to collaborating with the ACUNS community on our association’s important work and future directions.

Biography of Dr. Courtney B. Smith

Dr. Courtney B. Smith serves as Dean of the School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University, and as vice dean of Seton Hall Law. Dr. Smith has served as a faculty consultant for the Secretariat of the United Nations Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations, as main representative for Seton Hall’s Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC, and as treasurer for ACUNS. He also developed and directs the School’s United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program, which brings an international group of students to UN Headquarters for a one-week immersion program. Dr. Smith has interviewed over one hundred United Nations delegates and staff members for his research on the organization and its members. His book, Politics and Process at the United Nations: The Global Dance, was published by Lynne Rienner in 2006. His research on UN political processes has been published in the journals Global Governance, The International Journal of Organization Theory and Behavior, International Journal of Peace Studies, International Studies Perspectives and White House Studies and with United Nations Association of the USA. Other UN-related research includes a book chapters on UN Security Council reform, and Kofi Annan’s leadership as Secretary-General. He earned a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from The Ohio State University.
