Our Purpose
ACUNS is a global professional association of educational and research institutions, individual scholars, and practitioners active in the work and study of the United Nations, multilateral relations, global governance, and international cooperation. We promote teaching on these topics, as well as dialogue and mutual understanding across and between academics, practitioners, civil society and students.

Programs and Events
Annual Meeting: The ACUNS Annual Meeting is a global conference which provides our members and friends with a unique opportunity to discuss UN- and global governance related research and policy. Each year, the Annual Meeting is held in a new location.

ACUNS UN Workshop: The ACUNS Workshop, offered annually in partnership with the United Nations Office of Human Resources Management, brings together emerging young scholars and practitioners. The workshop encourages new directions and ideas in the analysis of international organizations and policy issues, establishes and strengthens contacts between scholars and United Nations practitioners, and stimulates advanced research and teaching in the specific workshop subject.

John W. Holmes Lecture Series: ACUNS inaugurated the John W. Holmes Memorial Lecture Series in 1989 in honor John Holmes. This annual lecture is presented at the ACUNS Annual Meeting.Special Lectures and Workshops:ACUNS organizes or co-sponsors other, individual special seminars, lectures and workshops with member institutions around the world as opportunities arise.

Awards: Our Dissertation Award recognizes a promising young scholar whose research combines innovation and excellence.

Podcasts: ACUNS monthly podcasts feature three series; Current Issues, Professional Development, and Book Talks.

Global Governance Journal: Global Governance: A Review of Multilateralism and International Organizations is published four times a year by Brill. The journal is a project of ACUNS; Brigham Young University is the current editorial team and host. This award-winning and influential refereed journal is distributed to all ACUNS members.

Individual Members: ACUNS members come from diverse fields of study and practice, including international relations and international law, trade and development, human rights, humanitarian medicine, cultural studies, media and social networking analysis; and include junior and senior levels of academics, diplomats, lawyers and legal scholars, nongovernmental and intergovernmental organization officers, government representatives and many others.

Institutional Members: ACUNS also has Institutional Members across the world. Our institutional members represent a diverse range of universities, research centres, think tanks, NGOs, and related organizations.

Liaison Offices
Our Liaison Officescontinue to serve as contact points for ACUNS members traveling to those locations and interested in making connections to the United Nations based organizations in those cities, and to the local scholarly communities there.

The individual lead Liaison Officers at these locations are ACUNS members, either in the academic or practitioner communities, who have volunteered their services to help support members of our global network. In some cases, the Liaison Offices also organize functions – lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences – in cooperation with local UN bodies, other international organizations, NGOs, and academic institutions.

Board of Directors
ACUNS is governed by an international Board of Directors. The Board consists of: the Chair, the Past Chair or Chair Elect, two Vice Chairs, and seven Officers. Each Board Member usually serves one 3-year term. The Board meets once per year at the Annual Meeting.

ACUNS holds Associate Status with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); General Consultative Status with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); and observer status to United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).
