Board Members direct specific areas of ACUNS’ work through internal committees, such as planning the annual conference, ensuring a thriving membership network, Board nominations, and development of partnerships. Following the ACUNS Bylaws, Board Members also adopt policies that define the organization’s commitments to its members and network.
How long do Board Members serve?
Each Board Member usually serves one four-year term. The Board meets several times per year – once during the Annual Meeting, as well as during other periods when important decisions need to be taken or announcements shared and discussed.

2023 Call for Nominations for Position of President-Elect
The Academic Council on the United Nations System invites expressions of interest for the position of President of ACUNS. The President serves as head of ACUNS and Chair of the Board of Directors. The President provides strategic leadership and advice to the Board and the Secretariat on the direction of the Council. The President also provides more specific advice in collaboration with the Executive Director, or in response to questions from the Executive Director, regarding ACUNS programs, projects and activities. Other duties include: representing ACUNS at specific events, as arranged or agreed with the Board and/or ExecutiveDirector; representing and promoting ACUNS at any other events, as appropriate; chairing the meetings of the ACUNS Executive Committee and Board of Directors; and participating in committees of the Board, as appropriate.
The position of President entails a four-year commitment—one year as President-Elect, two years as President, and one year as Past-President. The four year commitment is from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2027.
The position is unremunerated and requires a high degree of commitment to serve the discipline. The President-Elect is expected to have been an active member in good standing of ACUNS for several years, and therefore already broadly familiar with the organization, its programs and activities and at least some of its membership. Given that serving as President requires significant in-depth knowledge of ACUNS and the role of the Board, we normally expect, but it is not formally required, that interested individuals will have served on the Board at some point or have played a similarly active role in ACUNS and its programs and activities.
All submissions are due by 31 March 2023
Interested individuals should submit:
- Curriculum vitae
- Bio (300–500 words)
