• image001__0Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Director of the Institute of International Relations, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The appointment will be at the professorial level and involves the holding of an Academic Chair, with relevant teaching, research and administrative responsibilities.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide academic leadership in teaching and research and to sustain effective relations with governments and intergovernmental bodies, non-governmental organizations, diplomatic and consular corps and the private sector, especially at the regional level, and with foreign academic institutions and think-tanks and will be responsible for the administration of the Institute and overseeing the work of the Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean.  The Director is responsible to the Board of the Institute for the discharge of his/her functions and is assisted by a Committee of the Institute comprised of all members of academic staff.
  • According to the original Constitution of the Institute, the Director is responsible for:
    the control of the expenditure of the funds of the Institute within the approved estimates;
  • the general administration of the Institute and its day to day management;
  • the initiation and implementation of the general policies of the Institute as approved by the Board;
  • the organisation of the teaching and research of the Institute;
  • the organisation of special programmes and projects in furtherance of the objects of the Institute;
  • ensuring that the agreed procedures are followed with respect to all matters within the joint competence of the Institute and the University;
  • representation, either personally or by a nominee appointed by him/her, upon such Authorities, Boards or Committees of the University as may be required or allowed by the University;
  • the making of such arrangements with the University as he/she may consider appropriate to ensure the proper accommodation and the proper administration of the Institute and its funds;
  • the direction and furtherance of the external relations of the Institute;
  • the submission of an Annual Report to the Board.
