Background
Verónica Michel is an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at John Jay College-CUNY. Dr. Michel has a B.A. in International Relations from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota. Her research interests include comparative and international criminal justice, victims’ rights, legal mobilization, and human rights, with a regional focus on Latin America. She has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Law and Society Review, International Studies Quarterly, and Journal of Human Rights, and she has also contributed articles to openDemocracy.net. She is currently working on her book manuscript tentatively entitled Rule of Law from Below: Prosecutorial Accountability and Access to Justice in Chile, Guatemala, and Mexico.
