Background
After graduating in Law (2009), Marcella Ferri obtained her PhD in Science of International Cooperation (2013) at the University of Bergamo (Italy). During her PhD, she was Visiting Student at the United Nations in Geneva; she spent a second research period at the Interdisciplinary Institute of Ethics and Human Rights of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). After her PhD, she was Research Fellow (2014-2015) and Postdoctoral Research Scholar (2015-2016) at the University of Bergamo.
She collaborated as expert consultant to some research projects promoted by the Council of Europe and she worked as Project Assistant at the Directorate General of Democracy of the Council of Europe.

Since 2016, she is Adjunct Professor of Institutions of Comparative and European Law – module of European Law – at the University of Bergamo, and Adjunct Professor of International Human Rights Law at the Graduate School of Economics and International Relations (ASERI) of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Milan).

She is member of the European Society of International Law (ESIL), and of the Academic Council of the United Nations System (ACUNS).

Her main research interests are the international protection of human rights, with a peculiar focus on cultural diversity, cultural rights, freedom of religion, and state positive obligations stemming from human rights.
