Elodie Convergne is an international conflict resolution researcher, lecturer and policy analyst. She is specialized in civil and “new” wars and how international organizations deal with their specific issues and actors through mediation and mediation support. Her doctoral research at Sciences Po Paris (Institute of Political Studies) focuses on UN mediation and the peacemaking work of Special Envoys/Representatives specifically, with Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Guatemala and El Salvador as her case studies. She conducted numerous interviews with mediators, international civil servants and diplomats, as well as with political leaders and civil society representatives in conflict-affected countries.
Elodie has worked at the UN Secretariat, where she contributed to the Report of the Secretary-General on Preventive Diplomacy, to the reform of UN political missions, and to the section tasked with recruiting senior field leaders. She also has experience with the European Union, and has been a consultant for the International Peace Institute and the NYU Center on International Cooperation among others. She has been a visiting scholar at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, where she took part in the research project on The Role of the Special Representatives of the UN Secretary-General in the Maintenance of International Peace and Security.
